It doesn't affect much if anything on the NES because, well, it's coded a lot more efficiently than Game Maker. In Game Maker, though, that takes up more RAM. I don't remember if I've seen any code that explicitly differentiates between jumping and falling states, but even if there was such a code, it would be pointless -- RAM offset $05C1 is set when Trevor is falling. There is so much wasteful code in CV3! Granted, it's taken me this long to find these issues, so it's not like Konami likely would have had time to find them either...
